Every summer season is a testing time for aspiring students, who are preparing for different kinds of entrance tests for getting admission into various courses. Besides, there are other category of students who will be appearing for competitive examinations of different kind.

Intermediate students are preparing to sit for the final examinations in the state, which will start from March 5 while Class X exams will be held from March 25.

With the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) announcing its entrance test notification recently, many candidates are getting ready to apply for the same. The common entrance tests for professional and post-graduate courses spread over the months of May and June. And the season this year has just began with most of the universities coming out with their own schedule of entrance tests.

I-CET by Osmania University: The APSCHE has assigned the responsibility of conducting Integrated Common Entrance Test (I-CET-2008) to get admissions into MBA and MCA courses to Osmania University for the academic year 2008-09. Accordingly, Osmania University has nominated Prof. D.N. Reddy, Principal, University College of Engineering, Osmania University as Convener, and Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University as Chairman.

In terms of orders issued by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the proceedings by A.P. State Council of Higher Education, Hyderabad, applications are invited for appearing at the Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET) for admission into Ist year MBA / MCA Degree Course for the academic year 2008-2009 in the following Universities and their affiliated colleges offering MBA / MCA Programme.

on or before stipulated date. The ICET will be held on 11-05-2008 (Sunday) between 10.00 AM TO 12.30 PM.

EAMCET : The Engineering Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET)-2008 is conducted by JNT University. This examination is the gateway for entry into various professional courses offered in Government/Private Engineering, Medical, Dental, Agriculture and Pharmacy  Colleges in Andhra Pradesh.

The EAMCET-2008 notification was released on February 8 and the sale of applications also started from February 14 and would continue till March 14. The cost of the form is Rs. 250 and they will be available at designated post offices and e-seva centres. Candidates can also submit the forms online.

This year Machilipatnam in Krishna district has been added as the 21st regional centre. The committee, which is monitoring the EAMCET-2008 admissions, had decided to allow the Bi.P.C students to take admission in B.Tech (Biotechnology).-provided they have to clear the bridge coourse.

EAMCET-2008 Chairman and JNTU Vice-Chancellor K. Rajagopal said in a media conference, which was held recently that the committee agreed in favour of allowing students to submit their forms just one day before the EAMCET that would be held on May 8, 2008. However, they need to pay penal charges of Rs. 10,000.

The test would be of 160 marks for both Engineering and Medical streams. The Engineering test would be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Medical from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. on May 8. There is no change in the pattern of the examination and it would continue to be in the objective questions format.

“According to reports of last year, the total 1, 70,788 candidates cleared the engineering test out of the 1, 82,829 who appeared registering 93.41 per cent pass. In the medical stream, 87,641 passed out of the 91,223 who appeared registering pass percentage of 96.07.”

Engineering Common Entrance Test (ECET-2008)
Meanwhile, the JNTU is conducting Engineering Common Entrance Test ECET (FDH) –2008 and Mr. Dr. K. Govindarajulu has been appointed as Convener of the ECET-2008. The notification was also released on February 18 and commencement of sale of applications forms began from February 21 and last date for sale and receipt of filled-in applications is April 2. The ECET will be held on May 1.

Applications are invited from Diploma Holders in various branches of Engineering are—Civil/ Electrical/ Mechanical (Including Automobile, Packaging Technology, Printing Technology and Food Ware Technology) / Computer Engineering (including Special Diploma) / Electronics and Communication (including Special Diploma/ Special Diploma in TV and sound Technology)/ Diploma in Bio- Medical Engineering (including Special Diploma) / Mining/ Chemical (including Sugar Technology/ Ceramic Technology/ Textile Technology/ Leather Technology)/ Metallurgy/ Electronics and Instrumentation (including Special Diploma)/ Biotechnology/ Pharmacy for the Common Entrance Test.

Ed CET :  The APSCHE had handed over the conduct of Education Common Entrance Test (Ed.CET-2008) to Andhra University for the academic year of 2008-2009. Prof.K.V.S.N.Raju is the Convener of the Ed.Cet while Prof. l.Venugopal Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, is the Chairman of the Ed.Cet. The notification was released on March 12 and last date for submission filled-in applications April 18. The test will be held on June 8.

Submission of filled-in Applications
Prescribed printed application form along with ICR Bio-data form and information booklet can be had across the counters from all the head post offices and the University Post offices in Andhra Pradesh. The Application forms can also be had from e-seva centres in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Warangal, Ananthapur and Guntur Cities.

The cost of each application form including registration fee, service charges, postal charges are Rs 150 to be paid incash. Duly filled in application form and ICR Bio-data form should be submitted in person or by registered post to the Convener, Edcet 2008, Ground floor, Vijayanagar Palace, Andhra University,Visakhapatnam on or before April 18.

Applications also can be submitted online. However, a copy of the application downloaded along with two photographs and DD for Rs 150 drawn form any nationalized bank in favour of  “the Secretary” APSCHE, payble at Hyderabad must be sent to the convener, Edcet-2008,  Ground  floor, Vijayanagar Palace, Andhra University on or before April 18. Lawcet : Acharya Nagarjuna University would conduct the LAWCET 2008 for the academic year of 2008-09. Prof.Y.P. Rama Subbaiah is convener of the LAWCET while Prof. Balamohan das Chairman and vice chancellor of the University. The notification was released and the test will be held on May 31.
