The board results are out and the one thing weighing on every student’s mind is which course to pursue. Hyd Timescatches the city buzz.
The long, boring lessons, the forced tiffin-box, the so-notcool uniforms - there shall finally be no more of this. The board results are out and so is school! Even the ones who attended junior college are not deprived of good news — there is no junior tag anymore. Apart from this and excitement, there is a lot more. You have to make the all-important decision of choosing your career path. So what is it that youngsters are planning for themselves?
Sushant Jain, who has just completed his intermediate from Sri Chaitanya has fixed on becoming a Chartered Accountant. “I have enrolled myself at a coaching institute and will soon take admission in a college which isn’t too strict about attendance, so I can easily attend my classes.” he says adding - “I feel CA has abundant scope and the moolah is tempting as well.”
For some, the results have wrecked their plans. Preetraj who had just passed his ISC exam says that he is totally confused about what he should do. “I had opted for a mechanical engineering course at a reputed college in Coimbatore but my results didn’t come out quite as I wanted them to. So now, since I cant get a seat there, I am waiting for EAMCET and AIEEE results to be out before I make any further plans,” he says.
For those who think that engineering and medicine are the choicest courses, think again. Vivek Jain of Sherwood Public School says he is all set to be a commercial pilot. “My training has already started at the AP Aviation Academy for my commercial Pilot license which I will get very soon. After this I can get into the industry.”
For those who haven’t decided yet, don’t get tense. If you are confused, you can get help. Mangesh Kadam, a student counselor says, “A lot of confused students come to us and we tell them they needn’t worry at all. We take into count their interests, their marks and the market trends and then talk to them about the careers best suited for them” he says.
Rachna Chopra, career counselor, updates us about the current trends in the market. “Singapore, Australia, Canada and New-Zealand are becoming education hubs along with UK and USA which are already in the league. Students are opting more for courses like aircraft management, commercial pilot training, petroleum technology and mining engineering with regular courses like BBA, Bio-Technology and Mechanical Engineering remaining in the long list,” she says. “Students spend almost the same if they study here or go abroad. But once they step out of the country, they get quality education along with an international degree and global exposure which wouldn’t be possible otherwise. Recession is a blessing in disguise for students who plan to study abroad since it is much easier to get a visa now, without the hassles of producing documents like bank statement, etc,” she adds.
Considering the pace at which Hyderabad is growing, the youth finds more opportunities and more options to choose from. But a prime thing to be kept in mind while choosing careers today is the scope of that particular industry as of today and of course its future prospects.
