Engineering admissions from this year will be totally web-based. Unlike previous years, where counselling was done online and the students had to personally attend and choose the course and college there and then only, the new method gives ample time for students to think and choose their choice of course and college.
In the new procedure, candidates can opt for a college and a course on the Internet after entering their personal details.
The software will generate options based on parameters like variety of courses and colleges that include NBA-accredited; reservations based on gender, region, caste and sub-divisions within reservations; double payment seats, sliding, sports and NCC quota among others. The notification to be issued by the government on this will clearly mention the detailed procedure of the counselling.
Authorities said helpline centres would be set up in every district to help students choose a college or course on the web and also to guide students on how to exercise their options. There will be no limit on the number of colleges or courses or a combination of colleges and courses to choose from. For example student can choose all the courses from a single college and single course from all the colleges.
Software designed for the purpose will ensure that they can choose nearly 3,000 options.
There will be a last date announced by the government and the students can change their options any number of times till the last date.
It is advised that they choose maximum number of options and not a few since their allotment would be based not just on their choices but also on how students with better ranks opt for the courses.
The system would automatically allot seats based on the preferences given. Once the allotment is done, candidates would have to download the allotment letter and then pay the fee in a bank.
The details of payment of fee would be given in the notification itself.
Verification
The counselling procedure and dates for certificate verification will be announced soon. Before the student can participate in the online counselling, he has to necessarily get his certificates verified at the helpline centres to be set up in every district.
The government will issue a notification giving details of the dates for each ranker to report at the centre for certificate verification.
Candidates who fail to report for certificate verification will not be considered for the allotment of a seat at any cost.
Every candidate has to produce certificates like the hall-ticket, rank card and all original certificates necessary for admissions.
After verification, all the original certificates will be retained and a receipt issued.
Students would be informed of the procedure to be followed to exercise options, details of banks and tuition fee after the certificate verification at the helpline centres.
