LONDON Metropolitan University is the largest single university in London and one of the largest in the UK, with over 34,000 students including over 7,000 international students from over 150 countries. There are over 600 students from India studying at the University .

The institution was originally established in 1848, but the name London Metropolitan University is relatively new, being established through a merger of two UK Universities in 2002. The institution was originally based in the heart of the city of London, at the Bishopsgate, but has now spread across the city as it has grown and diversified.
London Met offers a wide-range of curriculum with over 250 undergraduate courses, over 300 postgraduate courses and 60 areas of PhD research. It is particularly known for business, economics, computer science, law, electronics, polymer engineering, architecture, design, psychology and science, but all areas have good graduation and employment records, and there is a strong link between the University and the wider world of business, gover nment and the arts. The University boasts itself in "485 Courses: Infinite Opportunities".
The results of the Research Assessment Exercise 2008 (RAE) have highlighted both the quality and range of research outputs across the University . Over 60 per cent of all research outputs were judged to be at, or better than, a quality that is recognized internationally in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
The University has been granted accred itation by the Middle tion by the Middle StatesCommission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in the USA and is the second UK university to be granted regional accreditation in the United States.
The University is conscious of this, and provides advice and help to students in getting part-time jobs, full-time jobs and internships after graduation. Over 1000 of the students at London Met are sponsored by leading companies in the UK and globally, so there are strong links with industry and commerce, particularly in the IT, finance, banking and legal areas.
The University offers a range of postgraduate scholarships to outstanding scholarships including specific scholarships for future leaders run in conjunction with the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation in India. It also has joint scholarship programmes with BBC World Service and with Asia House. There are also scholarships to outstanding Tibetan students, most of whom have received prior education in India.
Alumni of London Met work everywhere, and the University maintains an active alumni network across the main metros of India, as well as in Hong Kong, Beijing, Dubai, London, Athens and Paris.

London Metropolitan University recently joined forces with the prestigious St Teresa's College, Cochin to host an Inter national Conference on English Language teaching for teachers across south India. The conference for two days focused on modern approaches to English language teaching, and teacher training, and included papers from UK and Indian a c a d e m i c s a n d p r a c t i t i o n e r s. T h e University has signed agreements with IMT, Ghaziabad and with Foundation for Leadership and Management in Education (FLAME) in Pune.
According to experts, getting onto various internal placement programme, as well as focusing on transferable skills and real job-ready potential, is what will ensure Indian graduates do well in the world of work, whether they are seeking jobs in India, the UK or elsewhere.
