Posted on : 13-07-2010 - Author : Madhumathi Kotamraju

Bridge Course is the centerpiece of Career Awareness Programme for young Engineering /Pharmacy – 2010 aspirants. This four-week summer course is for those students awaiting EAMCET results after completion of intermediate education. This course offers unique environment for students (who are unaware of the concept of engineering) and provides curriculum to enjoy career exploration and preparation for the forthcoming professional course like – B.Tech / Pharmacy. This programme is both educational and recreational. In addition to career awareness, these young aspirants enjoy a professional environment and get ready  for the same.

Bridge Course - 2010 under Career awareness programme offers a curriculum at Sri Sarada Institute of Science and Technology, Bhongir, that introduces young engineering and pharmacy aspirants to specific career fields like Science and Technology, imparting significance of each branch of engineering ECE, CSE, Civil, EEE etc., Communication skills and health and fitness. It also focuses on expanding education after Intermediate and before joining engineering and educates students of options available for +2 students.

This programme is unique and the first of its kind.It focuses on the concept of engineering and other professional courses offered by the AP State. It is held especially for rural students from villages like Valigonda, Anantharam etc in the district of Nalgonda, as they don’t have any exposure towards professional courses. It is also found that these students need a lot of exposure on communication skills and spoken English. With an innovative idea of encouraging such needful students, Sri Sarada Institute of Science and Technology, Bhongir conducted a one month long programme beginning on June 7.

What does the Course offer:
Young aspirants in the career awareness programme are encouraged to
1. Build self-confidence and self-esteem
2.Improve reading, writing and communication skills
3. Develop problem solving and critical thinking abilities
4. Accept guidance in the exploration of education and career options
5. Enhance computer learning
6. Find out about future prospects of jobs and learn more about specific career paths
7. Understand the link between Intermediate education – professional education and future employment
8. Learn more about education, employment, soft skills, employability skills etc.
9. Become motivated and focused on plans for the future
10. Attend guest lectures on personality development and self-motivation
11. Have a lot of fun with curricular activities The schedule for the programme was designed to enable the students to learn all the above mentioned aspects and skills. They were also
exposed to Computer and English lab sessions after the lunch session. The forenoon session
contained training in the skills required for the professional course. Personality development
and motivational sessions were also held on weekends.

Scope of Opportunity:
Students attending this programme would have a clear view of their career plans with confidence and would opt for branches of engineering and pharmacy without conformity and peer pressure. Communication skills play a major role in building up a career and they are the pre-requisites for any employment. Since the engineering course itself includes English as one of its major subjects both in I year and III year B.Tech attached with Laboratory, this would help the students perform well both in the curriculum and in their employment.

Activities like – JAM sessions, seminars, Role plays, and interactive sessions were conducted among the students which improved their communication skills.Through this career awareness programme, young engineering / pharmacy aspirants discover their strengths, practice critical thinking and develop inter-personal skills.

Adolescents – as they are, need to become actively involved in the choices and decisions that will determine their future. The course bridges the gap between innocence and maturity, adolescence and professionals and encourages facing challenges and following career paths that are in line with their skill and talent. The course was inaugurated by the founder principal of SNIST Sri Dr.P. Narasimha Reddy, Chairman, Mr. Venkat Reddy, Academic Advisor, Mr. Venkatesh, Treasurer, Mr. Raji Reddy,Secretary at Sri Sarada Institute of Science and Technology and Mrs. Madhumathi, Associate Prof. was the Co-ordinator.
