Be Confident to Achieve Goals

Self-esteem is the feeling one has about overall evaluation and appraisal of his or her own worth. In simple words, it is how a person feels about himself.

It is important to understand the process of self-esteem to understand how self-esteem (positive and negative) can affect us in our daily life. Self-esteem is a learning which is not a quick fix, but an ongoing process of personal growth.

Process of understanding and enhancing self-esteem is in following manageable ways.

Understanding self

When we want to understand ourselves we should concentrate on understanding emotions and other part is managing emotions. Majority of individuals are uncomfortable with to understand their emotions or never had the opportunity to learn to recognise and manage their emotions. They escape situations by denying their emotions and feelings by shutting them down. When we do manage emotions, we have to understand that emotions and feelings are neither right nor wrong. They are just messages to interpret which can help your intuition, which in turn becomes important for making decision which can further help in choosing opportunities.

Believing in self

Values are guiding principles by which individuals live, value is a worth that an individual places on things. They influence decisions and goals. Re- thinking on worth, individuals attach would help in strengthening values, which are very necessary for making right decisions. It is also important to understand on what bases you are associating with. So that values are unbiased.

Understanding your strength

Understanding an individual’s strength is the key for self-esteem. They are various aspects of strength like pursuing dreams which means thoughtful, well-planned risk with strong possibilities for success.

A strong sense of self-esteem enhances human accomplishment and personal well-being in many ways. People with high assurance in their capabilities approach difficult tasks as challenges to be mastered rather than as threats to be avoided. Such an efficacious outlook fosters intrinsic interest and deep engrossment in activities. They set themselves challenging goals and maintain strong commitment to them.

In contrast, people with low self-esteem doubt their capabilities shy away from difficult tasks which they view as personal threats. They have low aspirations and weak commitment to the goals they choose to pursue. When faced with difficult tasks, they dwell on their personal deficiencies, on the obstacles they would encounter, and all kinds of adverse outcomes rather than concentrate on how to perform successfully.

Self-esteem beliefs influence motivational and self-regulatory processes in several ways. They influence the choices people make and the courses of action they pursue. Most people engage in tasks in which they feel competent and confident and avoid those in which they do not. Strong self-esteem beliefs enhance human accomplishment and personal well-being in many ways.  Developing self-esteem is very important for managers as it helps them to have control on what they are handling.

Developing self-esteem

1. Appreciate self

One way to develop a strong sense of contentment is to give yourself appreciation. Respect yourself as you respect others and show kindness and care for yourself as you do with others.

2.  Beware of negative self-talk

You should guard yourself against the negative
thoughts that you have about yourself in relation to various aspect like skills, looks and etc. As you known too much of negative thought leads to devalue yourself which in turn would decrease self-esteem.

3. Focus on your attributes

We should start being happy with what we are, and focus more on these aspects so that we can make ourselves comfortable and confident. As we know every person is unique so try to understand your uniqueness and focus on it. Plan your future and understand what qualities define you as a person? What do you absolutely love about yourself?  Resist the temptation to criticise yourself. This is a learned behaviour and it can be unlearned with intentional action.

4. Develop competency

Set yourself simply and achievable task. Determine how you would find the time to accomplish your goal have a second plan in case something happens, enjoy the feelings of accomplishment and competence you get as you pursue and achieve your goals.

5. Empower yourself

Empowering yourself with confidence to trust
own judgment in decision-making situations. Rely on the decision made by you, make worthy consideration. Therefore you would be sure of your decisions.

Once you have tried out a few of these tips, consider making them a permanent part of your life. For most people developing good self-esteem is not just happiness, it results in bringing change in the way you look and think of yourself and life.
