Gone are those days of vis-à-vis career counseling for aspiring students. Technology has cast its shade on the world of education too, making counseling a piece of cake. Web counseling comes as a refreshing aspect for students, especially for those who are almost torn between their interests and a wide array of career avenues.

With the development of web and computer technology, web-based psychological counseling is becoming an important fashion in mental consultation at university. Web counseling is a new type counseling model which can be used to help students to resolve all kinds of problems about life and study. In this model, college students seeking for help could communicate with consultant by the way of internet. In broadly, counseling based on web includes self-serving model and consultant-presiding model. Web counseling could get over many shortages in traditional mental consultation, settling the increasing psychological problems or secret problems effectively and efficiently. The specific methods in our model of web-based psychological counseling involve popularization of mental health knowledge by e-information area, psychological counseling via web platform, e-mail, QQ. It would be a developmental stream to boost web psychological counseling at university.

Web counseling has become an important component of admissions. Despite a few hiccups experienced last year the Andhra Pradesh government wants to continue with the procedure given the advantages to students and reduction in admission time.

However, for some aspirants the procedure will always be new as they will be using this method for the first time. So, this much thought-about process needs to be understood carefully by the students or else exercising options may turn out to be an unpleasant experience.

To make students understand the procedure officials are making arrangements to have mock web counseling sessions at all the helpline centres. Special video lectures have been made for the purpose.

A minor change in the procedure this time is that students have to confirm that the data on social status, regional status, sex and income status given are correct.

Income certificate submitted at the time of counseling will be the basis for considering fee reimbursement and other scholarships. And students submitting fake certificates will be liable for prosecution apart from losing admission.

Unlike manual counseling conducted in the previous years, online counseling has a different procedure even though the end result is the same. That is certificate collection, seat choice & allotment, fee payment and college admission. All this revised procedure is mainly because of the change in the way counseling is done for this year. In the past years Eamcet counseling is done at the counseling centers with different dates for different ranks. So top rankers got their counseling done faster than others, while the highest rankers had to wait for their time. There were also phases for reservation based counseling. This used to be a heavily time consuming process and it used to take months to complete the counseling.

The poor candidates were those who had highest ranks and had to wait for many months before their admission process is completed while at the same time the top rankers are already admitted and started classes by that time. This year this has changed, thanks to the new web based or online counseling for Eamcet and ICET 2009. The only added troubles are to know how to place your options for colleges during online counseling time. But online counseling’s advantage is that it takes less number of days for this process. That could be the reason why the committee took so much time to announce the dates. The preparation time is more but many more months are saved. All the rankers from top to bottom will have their counseling at the same time including reservation quotas as well.
