Set Your Goals High
Posted on : 08-03-2011 - Author : Our Correspondent

Set your goals high and try to ---------exceed them.

Goals are as essential to success as air is to life. No one can achieve success without a goal. No one can survive without air. Fix your goals clear and work towards it.

A goal is your objective, your destination. A goal is your final point to reach or a place towards which you should move.

Goals are of two types:-Long term and Short term. Short term goals should help us to reach long-term goals. It may be clarified as why one must have short-term and long-term goals to achieve success.

“One day a young boy approached his teacher with a career problem. An SSC pass candidate, highly intelligent, wanted to become an IAS officer. From the level of SSC, he wanted to plan his career. The teacher appreciated his career planning as the boy did not understand the importance of short-term goals, namely passing intermediate, graduation, post graduation and preparation for IAS. The boy is planning his career seven years in advance. This is a long range goal. The teacher helped him in planning his short term goals before he started moving into his career. He has to get to know where that career goal is. This is where career guidance is required”.

Killer points in reaching goal:
The following are the killer points in reaching the goal:

• Self depreciation: Don’t destroy the desire with negative feelings. A self depreciation like
‘I can not do, I lack brains’ is the first killer point in reaching the goal.

• Security-it is: Persons who say. ‘I am secure in my job, I don’t want to take risks’, is a person who cannot come up in life.

• Parental dictation: Every parent wants to see that their children live happily. But, they should not force their views on their children. Parental dictation will hamper the self progress of their children.

• Fear of Competition: The market is saturated with persons. I cannot compete. This kind of attitude kills the desire to become great.
Keep away the above killer points in reaching the goal.

Plan to accomplish something.
Set goals to get right things.
Doing nothing than eating, sleeping and rocking attitude is the poison-for you, and is the first form of laziness.

“Goal is a burning desire. It is powerful enough to save you from failure”

The person who is determined to achieve maximum success learns the principle that progress is achieved step by step. A house is built brick by brick. Every big accomplishment is formed by a series of little accomplishment. The principle of ’extra mile’ works as a tonic for successful people. The step-by-step method or extra mile approach is the only intelligent way to attain the goal. For example, everybody knows smoking is a bad habit. But it is impossible to stop smoking all at a time. It is suggested to adopt simple technique of hour-by-hour technique or only three cigarettes a day technique. This technique will definitely help smokers avoid smoking after some exercise.

Therefore, decide what specific things one should do to make one more effective and slowly to reach the goal. For this it is suggested to have a Monthly Action Plan (MAP) to reach the goal.
30 days (Monthly) Action Plan:
