Motivate self to achieve goals
Posted on : 17-08-2011 - Author : B. Madhura

Motivation is what gives people the courage to take risks, to challenge themselves, to pursue their dreams, to overcome challenges and obstacles, and to persist long enough to see their dreams and goals become the reality of their life. Most of the rewards and awards are won by self motivated people as they have zeal to excel in all spheres of life. Every individual faces three problems in their daily life.
They are
1) Self motivation
2) Continuous learning
3) Quality of lived experience.
Self motivation means “initiative to undertake or continue a task or activity without another’s prodding or supervision”.

Why self motivation ?
It is necessary for the following reasons:
· To gain success
· To attain assignation internally to one’s behaviour and externally to the environment
· To have a social comparison
· To maintain self respect
· To increase creativity levels
· To get an opportunity to experiment with ideas. As opportunity first, then knowledgemotivates people to learn
· To learn from failure Self motivation is more involved with a man’s emotions. It implies a positive feeling that keeps people from doing things. These people who are highly motivated are described as enthusiastic individuals. They are optimistic -they don’t give up easily in reaching for their goals. In layman’s terms, self motivation pertains to determination.

Self motivated people will have such high level of characteristics.
· Self motivated people have a mature outlook

· Self motivated people respect themselves as individuals even in cases where superiors may not encourage, recognise and reward them. “People will always throw stones in your path. It depends on you, what you make from it, a wall or a bridge; your decision will change your life”. To motivate is to motivate your self.Motivation is education; there is no education without motivation. Treat people like people is the basic concept of motivation. “President Abraham Lincoln never went to school, he became president because he had a vision that motivated him, and a Vision that motivates is the secret”.

To be getting motivated to oneself one need pose the following questions:
1. What roles have you chosen for your life?
2. What dreams do you have for each role?
3. What are your talents?
4. What are your ultimate career goals?
5. What can you achieve in 2 – 5 years?
6. What are your personal goals?
How do you motivate yourself ? A few tips are:
· Have a cause which inspires you
· Have a dream which makes you to imagine
· Have hunger which connects your cause and dream to your self

Self motivation enhances self fulfillment and satisfaction of achieving difficult goals leading to higher performance, attitude management consists of three elements

2) Social Intelligence
3) Self Motivation.
And self motivation techniques include self evaluation, self control and role playing. Self Motivation,“A BEAUTIFUL STORY OF A BOY” There is a boy in a certain school. This boy has a fascination towards soccer and always practiced his level best but was never selected for the final team but he never left his practice and hope.Whenever he was there for practice, he was accompanied by his father who used to sit in the same seat till his practice finished. The final year came and the final selections for the team were near and the practice was at its peak.

When there were still four days left for the selections and match, the boy suddenly stopped coming for practice and the coach was not informed about it.The selections day came and the match was scheduled for the afternoon and suddenly the boy appeared from nowhere before the coach and asked for a place. Now the coach said: “Son, I had better players and you were not here for the practice sessions and how can u expect me to take you in, I can’t go against my better judgment and I cannot take you in”.The boy pleaded like anything and almost fell on the feet of his coach begging for a place. Now the coach never had seen anyone plead like that and said “Son, okay I can give you a chance for the first half and you got to prove your abilities and never forget that the reputation of the school is at risk, this is the first time I am going against my better judgment”.

The boy thanked him and got into the finals. The match started. The boy played like a house on fire and he converted every ball that came to him into a goal. Needless to say, the team won the match for the first time in their history and the boy was awarded the player of the tournament award. When he came to the coach, the coach asked him: “Son where have I gone wrong all these days, how did I go wrong in my judgment about you all these days, how did you play so well, what motivated you”. The boy replied: “Sir my father was watching me”. “Where is he watching from, whenever you made a goal I looked for your father and he is nowhere to be seen,” said the coach with a surprised tone.“Sir, there is one thing that you don’t know; my father was blind by birth. He was just here to motivate me. Four days back he died and for the very first time he was watching me from there” and pointed his finger to the sky with tears in his eyes. “That’s what motivated me and made me play so well”.

“Once you start working on something, don’t be afraid of failure and don’t abandon it. People who work sincerely are the happiest.”
