Ugadi ( Telugu New Year), for the Nandana Nama samvatsaram, we have celebrated last month.. We looked at the astrological predictions for the new year and found them to be, as usual, a mixed content of ‘good and bad’. These are all the routine affairs with which we need not be serious nor concerned with. But the happenings in the country presently is worrying every one particularly so the people who think about the country and its interest. ‘Bharat is Mahan’, but for many self centric leaders, bureaucrats and the prominent persons of repute in the country’s administrative set up, it is a very ‘fertile land/ground’ for maximum exploitation of the resources and authorities conferred on them. The acts of many comprising of; Ministers at the National and State level, I.A.S officers, Army Chief/Defence personnel in the Army, Civil Servants at State, Leaders of all political parties irrespective of being in power or without, Players in the Sports and Games, etc., in the recent past has brought more shame to the country and its development. The unscrupulous behaviors of these is both tragic and detrimental to the progress and prosperity of the country. Their blame game without any sense of shame and concern for the others, false utterances and actions, moving across the country with pride and justification of their treacherous activities, corruption rajas making promises of providing clean government, lakhs of people gathered to applaud such leaders etc., is really unfortunate. The situation, as it is now, with wide spread corruption, irresponsible misdeeds at all level resulted in the present chaos in the country. Corruption in all the spheres of life, as reported and continuing to be reported daily, in the print and electronic media indicates a dangerous situation through which the country is currently passing through. The impact without any exception will affect everyone. Our concern is more about protecting/ shielding the process of education from the influences of; Corruption and Chaos. There is no alternative before us than putting all our efforts to combat the corruption with all the force and vigour right here and now.
World is expecting a lot from us. According to Delloitte group India ranks 2nd globally as the home for the fast growing technology firms, Goldman Sachs & Pricewater Coopers has predicted that India has the potential to be the world’s leading economies by 2050. It is true, with increasing youth population ( 50% of people being 25 years and younger ),we stand ahead of many for shaping or reshaping the economy of the entire world for the general good of all. We need to build systems and capabilities that facilitate the growth of the country with peace and prosperity making effective use of the fertile ground with plenty of opportunities opened up by ‘global knowledge and economy’. Even though we have the capabilities the big question before us is about our ‘readiness’ to cope up with the situational requirements to become the ‘great’ as forecast by many visionaries both within and outside. The doubt in the minds of
many is about our abilities to face the challenges and the role we need to play in the global economy overcoming the present and future impediments that come up putting hurdles on our path of progress. The need is to pull out our education out of the present catastrophe insulating it from the impact of the corruption and chaos. We need to generate educated class in large numbers to play key role in the global economy through our dedicated efforts to expand and create an egalitarian system of education with a clear understanding of our culture, history, needs, endowments and competence as envisaged by our Human Resource Minister.
For this to happen, all including the government, academia, business, civil society and citizens need to work to focus on; ‘education’ as the key enabler of empowerment, social change and inclusive development. We have to build a system that promotes creativity, freedom, joy and an awareness of culture, culture of values. Our Endeavour is to bring change in the current environment fully engrossed with corruption, degradation of moral values, senseless patronizing
the people who are harming the society, pampering some sects and religions bartering the interest of the country as a process of vote bank politics etc.
In the backdrops of things of the recent times, the lurking fear and doubt among the optimists, patriots and the people who sincerely think in the interests of the nation is; ‘whether we can overcome the treacherous influence of the corruption and chaos in our lives every day. Unfortunate mind set of people patronizing corruption and corrupt people is worrying many. Society is divided both horizontally and vertically in criticizing the corruption and at the same time sympathizing the corrupt. The peak of it all is, the promises being made by the people who are reported to have been nurtured and cultured in corruption, to provide a clean corrupt free administration and people in large numbers clapping at it and voting them to victory with full faith.
Can we save the country?, under the situations where; the Army Chief, Prime Minister, Home Minister, Human Resource Minister, Communication Minister and so on………… at the Centre and the Chief Minister, Chief of the Ruling/Opposition Parties, Several of the Ministers and Bureaucrats and many more in almost all departments of the administration at state level are either directly involved or found to have indirectly encouraged the corruption by option or by compulsion. The worry is about the transformation of many clean administrators turning to be either active or passive participants in administration which is totally engrossed in corruption resulting in the present chaos. The silver line in the present situation is the efforts of our Judiciary and few of the sincere officials in the C.B.I and Anti Corruption departments. But, the meek society is not in a position to protect the sincere. The High Commands of both ruling and
opposition parties are looking the things only and only with the interests in election to gain power to continue the present corrupt practices. The people, as their leaders, too are Hippocratic in their approach in criticizing the corruption and at the same time electing the corrupt. Under the situation, the answer to the question raised is a definite ‘no’.
The immediate need requirement is to insulate our education system from the impact of evil effects of corruption and chaos adapting an approach of; ‘awake, arise and stop not until the goal is reached’ through our synergetic efforts in educating the masses that matter empowering them to take right decisions at right time to put the system right.
If this happens the answer to the question raised is again a definite ‘yes’. Let us all try for it.
