Vision, Values and Education
Posted on : 15-06-2012 - Author : Dr. G. Babu Rao

Every day happenings are causing worry to every right thinking citizen of the world with concern for the society and values. Corruption, selfishness, greed for power, sycophancy, flocking of the people around the people who have least value for values is affecting the normal lives of the people across the globe particularly in the 'land of knowledge that is Bharat'. It is a matter of grave and great concern to every sensitive person who has a vision of holistic development of the nation. It is with alarming frustration and anxiety that the common man is looking for a leadership of wisdom with right directions guided on the principles of values to realize the goal of making Bharat a 'super power' by 2020. We have just eight more years to achieve the targeted vision. The question, rather a big one is; 'Whether we will be successful in realising our Vision or fail to accomplish it?'

We trust and believe that the knowledge and education of the people with right values will lead them to reach the stars, no matter at what highest heights they exist. It is the perseverance, right; thinking, feeling and doing with a determined will that is important to achieve success. We need to make a realistic introspection of ourselves in relation to the current situational factors around us to plan and pursue a 'road map' that makes our vision realisable. Effective tool and process is 'education with values'.

Looking at the things that are connected with people and the country make us understand; 'where we are now, where we intend to go, And how?' Mere proclamation of vision without any preparedness, commitment, will not lead us to our expected destination. The disillusionment surrounding us will indicate that we need to muster greater will power to overcome the current situations with all determination and dedication. Every bad thing that is occurring presently should provide us with a good learning experience/education to change ourselves for the good instead of getting us disheartened.

The first Education that one receives is believed to be through the mother. The traditional mother in the sacred land is  depicted to be an ideal teacher and is an embodiment of all virtues and values. There are instances where mothers have sacrificed their evil and erratic children for the cause and benefit of the society they live in. The situation today is appearing, at least in one case, quite contrary to what we cherish to imbibe. A mother is now on the streets for rescuing her son who is allegedly /reported to be involved in the activities that brought shame to the country. Though, mere allegations should not mar the people's future but the nature of allegations and the involvement in dubious activities as reported every day are of such disastrous characters that they need to be checked in all aspects before entrusting power to anyone to lead. A saner mother should guard her child from the involvement of nefarious activities that are detrimental to the country's interest. Failing to control or contain the evil acts of her child a mother should come forward in protecting the country from her son's ambitious plans, at least till such time he comes out clean to rule the destiny of the people.

The gloomy picture prevailing in the political system of the country is yet another worry to which the Indians are put to. Agitations on corruption, maladministration, bribing in the judiciary, sycophancy in the political and bureaucratic circles, overcrowding of our prisons with persons of eminence (in the past), malpractices in the education sector etc., is a matter of disgrace to everyone in the country. When the whole atmosphere is turbulent and vicious we fail to get a balanced thinking on rejuvenating the system/(s) that can put the lives of the people in right track.

Where to start? And where to end? Are the main problems we face in this country to retrieve the situation for the better? The vast nation with immense diversities must accept and respect the diversities in evolving a right approach to sort out the issues arising out of various complexities in social, economical, educational and political lives. We need to muster courage with all conviction to confront the challenges of present and future with all capabilities we acquire, experience through the education and values. Stress on values should be given top priority in all educational and training endeavours. Determination to resolve the present crisis with an integrated approach taking 'crisis' as an 'opportunity' even though it is in fact a 'danger' is what is required now. Preparedness of every member of the society to combat the evil forces till they are totally destroyed requires all energies and a will to fight. Our educational processes will have to be conceived to provide the needed capabilities that take the country to progress and prosperity. Arm twisting tactics of political leaders, however great they are, must be put to an end; through rightly thought of policies based on democratic principles. Our capabilities must be enhanced and enriched with value based education and training. The developments must be conceived to benefit the nation and the common man. Instead of promoting 'populist peoplism' with lip service to 'aam admi', we need to marshal all our resources for the economic growth of individuals, groups, state and the nation. National interests will have to be kept in high esteem while formulating the policies and educating every individual for implementing the same in the right way. The same should be emphasized in all our educational approaches.

The need of the hour is to provide directions to the educational processes that nurture the right values that benefit the humanity at large and the country in specific. The vision of the nation must always be kept in mind and every act must be designed with creativity and implemented with precision leading to a congenial society that provides opportunities to the youth through new technologies, processes and procedures on a global platform for cooperation and development facilitating convergence of power, knowledge and technical capabilities. Bringing 'world class education' by establishing educational systems that secure equitable learning outcomes making every part of the society as a 'knowledge hub' adopting both formal and informal techniques of education. Mothers need to be educated to think beyond their wards' interest. Politicians, bureaucrats and the people who matter in the formulation of policies and practices must be taught and trained for strengthening the five major areas like; proactive governance, political strong will, generation of trained human resource, enhancement of  apabilities in individual based on values and a futuristic vision for a better tomorrow overcoming the current ghost of corruption and selfishness among the people with short sighted gains.
