Delayed Admissions, Deprived Students – Indecisive Government
Posted on : 14-08-2012 - Author : Dr. G. Babu Rao

The uncertainty prevailing in the state of Andhra Pradesh with regard to admissions for the engineering courses indicates the state of confusion among various sections of the people partiularly so in the field of professional education. It is indeed a pathetic situation to which the engineering education is pushed to in a state which is first in having more engineering colleges in the country. Andhra Pradesh happens to be the first among the states of the country in many of its achievements is also now establishing itself as the state of confusion and is amidst many issues for which the solutions are not likely to be found in the near future.

The admission to engineering colleges is the latest issue that gets added to the list of uncertainties. Hapless students qualified for admission are anxiously waiting for the process to start, distress to which the parents and the academia is put to is unfortunate. The lesson one will have to learn is that the populistic schemes introduced by selfish political leaders do more harm to the common man jeopardising the nation’s interest. One has to be bold in accepting the reality that most of the so called schemes have been, infact, benefitted the families and friends of the political leaders
more than the people in need. The fee reimbursement scheme introduced by the popular leader of the state is the root cause of the present turmoil and the ultimate victims are the people who were being wrongly propogated to be the beneficiaries. The anguish and displeasure expressed by the Governor of the state in recent times about the devilish repercussions the subsidies, other populistic schemes are causing is quite understandable.

His feeling are the true reflections of the thinking of the saner people of the state. Every one is concerned and worried about the evil effects but no one has courage to fight them out . It is time that the intelligentia, students and youth to join and lead a movement that protect the state and the nation. Un fortunately the society, as a consequence of selfish and vested interest led Governments after independence is awfully divided based on; castes, religion, region, sects etc., than in the days of British Raj. Each group works with its own goals and sectarian policies unmindful of long detrimental disastrous effects that those policies are going to affect the nation. It is time that the mindset of the people has to be thoroughly changed for the good of the nation. We need to put an end to the presently pursued policies of the
Politicians of; ‘offering fish to the people to get their votes to place them (politicians) on the seats of power’ by leading a fight adopting an attitude of; ‘teaching/ learning the skills to catch the fish and make them available for the entire society’.

The entire society will have to rise to the occasion with strong determination and positive out look to combat the present situation. Every care has to be taken by the people to share their thinking and offeri ng services for the benefit of the nation. One has to sacrifice, if need arises , their personal, religious, caste interests etc., for the cause of the general good of the state, nation and the future of the youth. The politicians both ruling and opposition, bureaucrats, non governmental organizations need to be taught the way they need to function with responsibility, commitment and
accountability. The Chief Minister and the Government should be bold enough to take right decisions at right time. Constitution of Committees without sincere commitment on their part (Government) and the reports submitted by those committes, if analysed , based on our past experience , seldom provided solutions. On the other hand many of them led to further complications, confusion and chaos. Our leadership will have to work with all the determination to put the nation on right track even at the cost of their Chair and Power. A day of righteous governance is better than several years disastrous governance. One will have take the bitter pill and adminster the same for the common benefit of all, if it provides cure to the present sickness the entire community, state and the nation is suffering with. The students, youth and right minded people must muster courage to bring a strong revolutionary change in the thinking of the people to avoid; ‘a day of free meal’ to work hard to get skills that make them sustain for a long lasting quality of life.

Looking for a day for such change to occur at the earliest.
