HYDERABAD : In a damage control exercise, the State government has emphatically stated that the scheme to reimburse tuition fee and pay hostel maintenance charges (MC) to eligible students among the weaker sections will continue unchanged.
A detailed clarification was given on Thursday after activists of backward classes organisations staged demonstrations outside 22 EAMCET counselling centres protesting a notification issued by A.P. State Council of Higher Education on July 22. The notification made no mention of fee reimbursement to the weaker sections.
Preventive custody
According to A.P. State BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah and former A.P. BC Commission member V. Krishnamohan Rao, police took into preventive custody demonstrators outside counselling centres in Chittoor, Tirupati, Nalgonda, Warangal, Vizianagaram, and Kurnool.
