Ist YEAR STUDENTS FALTER IN ENGINEERING COURES ;ONLY 34.2P.C. CLEARS ANNUAL EXAM
HYDERBAD: Budding engineers continue to falter in their first step & the poor pass percentage of first year engineering student of JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHONOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERBAD (JNTU) reflects that.
Only 34.2percent of first year student s cleared their annual examination this year leading to worry among parents as well as the university administration .
This year, out of the 82,584 students who took the exams, only 28,278 cleared all the subjects. Majority of them failed in Mathematics,Physics,Engineering graphics,& Engineering Mechanics. The poor standards of results is a reflection of the exponential growth of engineering colleges and dilution of teaching standars, agrees a senior professor in the JNTU Hyderbad .
Though students are also at fault,he says thepoor quality of teaching in majority of coolge and lack of laboratory facilities is a major factor.Colleges should take the blame for this poor performance.” Interestingly ,pass percentage in the final year is 90.42 and the professor exaplains that the final year students were admitted four years back when the college were few and standards better. Compared to 82,000 students admitted four years back.
Unqualified students with no inclination towards engineering course have joined during the last three years due to easily available seats, and that is anothers. Failures in Mathematics have been huge.
In some colleges, most students could not even get into double digit marks. Lack of good teachers is the sole reason for it and valuation system is also at faults, says a parent . The JNTU must focus on improving teaching quality in private colleges or else students will have to suffer a lot . “only the leftover candidates in the job market are joining teaching and what can we expect from them .”
JNTUH Vice –chancellor D.N.Reddy agrees to a centain extent . He says in Intermediate application oriented teaching is neglect and focus is just on scoring marks. Students are still in that mood in the first year where they confront application oriented subjects.
“So,it takes time for them to recover. In the second year, pass percentage this year is 47.96 while it is 57.73 in the third year,”he says in support of his argument. Moreover, they lose their way in their way in their way in the free academic atmosphere in engineering colleges after a “two-year jail” kind of atmosphere in junior colleges.
TRAINING :
Prof.Reddy ,however , says that first year due to sustained efforts like additional classes .
Last year ,it was just 31 percent and 29 per cent the year before. he agrees that quality of teaching has to improve and colleges have been asked to give training to their new recruits
