HYDERABAD:Faced by the all-too-real problem of there being more seats than candidates, some engineering colleges in the state have hit upon a “cashback“ offer to lure students.
They are asking students eligible for the government's fee reimbursement scheme to pay `15,000 at the time of admission with a promise that the same will be paid back to them once the government pays the colleges.
Irrespective of convener or management quota, some college managements are offering all seats for just `15,000, though the government prescribed fee for convener quota seats is `31,000 per annum and `95,000 per annum for management quota seats.
“We have been receiving several SMS from colleges on the cashback offer. When we approached them, they asked whether my daughter was eligible for the fee reimbursement scheme. When I said yes, they told me to pay just `15,000 now and take back the same after the government reimbursed the fee,“ said Mr B.Narendranath, a parent.
