A high-level team of the University Grants Commission (UGC) is likely to visit the Telangana University soon on the issue of granting recognition to the latter.
The team is expected to visit the campus next month. The university authorities have been eagerly waiting for UGC recognition ever since the varsity was launched in 2006. The recognition is much awaited as students may face problems without UGC nod for their university.
Sources said the varsity officials are busy making arrangements like updating departmental records and improving infrastructure facilities before the UGC team arrives.
Sources also said university vicechancellor Mohd Akbar Ali Khan has been pursuing the issue of UGC recognition with the higher-ups in the body that has constituted a five-member committee headed by former registrar Prof K Shiva Shankar.
The UGC team, during their visit, would take stock of infrastructure facilities, laboratory, students’ welfare and other amenities being provided to the students.
The proposed recognition would enable the varsity to avail regular funding from UGC and also help it to evolve into a full-fledged centre of excellence in higher education.
