Engineering students in Telangana region are facing the risk of ‘attendance shortage’ due to holidays announced by college managements in support of Sakala Janula Samme.

Same is the case with MBA, MCA, M.Tech, B.Pharmacy and M.Pharmacy students since these courses are also offered by the same engineering colleges on the same campus.

Out of total 717 engineering colleges in the state, about 365 are in Telangana alone. About 4 lakh students are pursuing various professional courses in these colleges.

These colleges have remain closed since September 18 and there is no clarity when the colleges will reopen though the managements expect it to happen only after October 9. With this, students are facing the risk of
not meeting the minimum 75 per cent attendance norm to appear for semester exams.

The JNTU-Hyderabad, which governs over 90 per cent of the engineering colleges in Telangana region, made it clear that it has not announced any holidays for engineering colleges, the managements have declared holidays till the APSRTC resumes its bus services completely.

Students are worried after they received SMSes from JNTU-Hyderabad stating that it has not declared any holidays on account of strike and colleges should function normally. As per existing rules, it is mandatory for every engineering student to have 75 per cent attendance to sit for the exams.

A 10 per cent concession is given on medical grounds but students having below 65 per cent attendance are not allowed to take the exams.
