Several candidates who appeared for the sub-inspector recruitment examination-2008, whose results were announced recently, alleged that the selection of candidates under the police executive (PE) quota was marred by mistakes because of which many eligible candidates lost the opportunity to join the police force.
As per the rules, candidates who fail to qualify under their respective caste quota, but have prior experience in policing as constable, head constable or assistant sub-inspector will become eligible for consideration under the police executive quota. However, some of those who appeared for the exam alleged that some candidates who secured marks that made them eligible to become SIs under the caste quota were selected under the PE quota. “For every such case, a genuine candidate who could have qualified to become a SI under the PE quota stands deprived of the same,” said one candidate. According to the AP police website, there are at least three candidates who got selected under PE quota though they crossed the qualifying marks under their respective caste quota. In Zone VI, 30 candidates were declared selected for becoming SIs under the PE quota. This included C Ramudu (hall ticket no 165524 caste BCA), G Vijay Kumar (174632 caste BC-A), and Dudi Raju (173510 caste SC) who secured 244, 248 and 233 marks respectively. However, they could have been selected under the caste quota as the cut off for BC-A was 242 marks and that for SC quota was 221.
Similarly, there are allegations that several candidates, who are serving as reserve sub inspectors (RSI) by using their earlier experience of being constables under PE quota, got selected as sub-inspectors (civil) once again by citing their earlier experience as constables. Any candidate who avails his experience as a constable to become RSI cannot avail the same experience in the subsequent exams. But there are many candidates who are alleged to have done so.
When contacted, state level police recruitment board chairman M Malakondaiah told TOI that no complaint regarding any irregularities in the SI recruitment has been brought to his notice so far. “If there are any specific cases, we will certainly look into them,” Malakondaiah said.
