The inquiry into the government school headmasters resorting to filtering of weak students to show good results in the SSC exams has revealed that a large number of students were issued “transfer certificates”. However, TCs were issued mostly to regular absentees, or to those who are not interested in pursuing the studies. The inquiry report is likely to be submitted to the Hyderabad district collector in a day or two.
The inquiry was conducted by deputy educational officers on the orders of N.
Gulzar, the Hyderabad district collector, following a representation submitted by MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. A report on this issue was also published in these columns on November 18.
The sharp decrease in number of students pursuing SSC in October compared to the high enrolment in June was attributed to migration of families to other areas. While in most cases boys and girls applied for TCs, some left the school without a TC.
