The schedule for the Common Entrance Test is out. The qualifying examination for admissions to undergraduate professional colleges in the State will be held on May 3 and 4 this year.
This puts an end to months of speculation on whether or not a State entrance test will be held for medical courses following the contentious decision by the Union Government to conduct an all-India test for medical courses.
Significantly, the State Government has decided to take the entire seat selection (or counselling) process online. “It has also been decided that steps will be taken to conduct all the admission rounds online and to offer tele-coaching on CET,” said Siddaiah, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education. Admissions to professional courses are conducted online in several other States such as Kerala, and by several deemed universities. This means that instead of physically attending the admission rounds (where students attend sessions according to their CET ranks) at designated CET centres, students will be able to select seats from home.
KEA officials said that discussions with private college managements on fees and seat sharing ratios will be held on January 30.
The CET 2012 will test students in Biology and Mathematics on May 3, and Physics and Chemistry on May 4. The Kannada language test, which is mandatory for those applying from outside the State, will be held on May 5.
