Indian Institute of Management –Tiruchi (IIM-T) has achieved the unique distinction of being the first among the newly started ones in the country to witness an international summer placement for a student in the batch of 2011-13.
A U.S.-based company has made the placement offer to the student at its Singapore centre. There was likelihood for three more international summer placements, IIM-T Director Prafulla Agnihotri, told media persons on Sunday. Forty companies, including FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) majors, recruited 83 students for internships in various domains.Renowned companies that offered marketing roles constituted HUL, P&G International, Perfetti Van Melle, Pfizer, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Rediff.com, Amul, Berger Paints, Arvind Limited, IOCL, Edu Nirvana, mHealth Ventures, Natesan Synchrocones, Innopark and Tata Metaliks.
Recruiters in the finance space were Citibank, HSBC, ING Vysya, ICICI, Yes Bank, L&T, NCDEX, UBI, IFMR and Kotak Mahindra.Profiles in the areas of consulting, operations, HR and strategy were offered by Cognizant Business Consulting, Mahindra & Mahindra GMC, IBM Research, Wipro, Lumis Partners, VFS Global, Redington, IL & FS, Index Advisory, Tata Chemicals, Murugappa Group, Gammon India, Impetus Consulting, Xindia Steels, and Sterling and Wilson.
The average stipend offered for the internship period of eight to nine weeks from April-March to May was Rs.53,000, excluding travel, accommodation and other benefits. The highest domestic offer was Rs.1.2 lakh.“Catering to the career aspirations of all students as per their aptitude was a major highlight. Even certain niche and unique interests such as renewable energy, mobile healthcare and online marketing were considered while placing students. One student chose to venture out on her own to pursue her interest in the field of Corporate Sustainability,” said Godwin Tennyson, chairperson, Placement and External Relations. Some of the companies visited again with more placement offers, he said. Owing to the quality of faculty (drawn from IITs, IIMs, and international institutions of eminence), infrastructure and Library established at a cost of Rs.75 lakh, the IIM-T has been rated best among new IIMs by MHRD and external agencies, the IIM-T Director said.
