The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has called for a Telangana bandh on Tuesday to protest the “Centre’s indifference” towards the separate statehood demand and the suicides by two Warangal youths for the T-cause. The party will, however, allow the SSC and other exams to go on as per schedule and educational institutions where exams are being conducted and the APSRTC have been exempted from the bandh. “The bandh will cover all government institutions, commercial establishments, hotels, cinemas etc.
But we have exempted educational institutions and the RTC in view of the ongoing SSC exams,” said Mr Etala Rajender, TRS Floor leader in the Assembly on Monday.
The suicides by Bhojya Naik, a MBA student and Rajamouli, an auto driver in Warangal, in the last two days have once again
stirred T-sentiments. The BJP, Telangana Telugu Desam Forum, Telangana Nagara Samithi, New Democracy and other Torganisations have supported the bandh.
Meanwhile, TRS MLAs staged a dharna in front of the Assembly gate on Monday morning and raised slogans against “Telangana traitors”. The newly-elected TRS, BJP and independent MLAs began their fresh innings in the Assembly by protesting the Centre’s delaying tactics and expressed their
anguish over the suicides for the T-cause.
The TRS’ Mr Gampa Goverdhan, Mr Jogu Ramanna, Mr Jupally Krishna Rao and Mr T. Rajaiah, BJP’s Mr Y. Srinivas Reddy and independent MLA Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, accompanied by other TRS MLAs offered floral tributes at the Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park opposite the Assembly and demanded that the Centre carve out a Telangana state soon.
SSC exam centres to be exempted The TRS has allowed the SSC and other exams to go on as per schedule and educational institutions, where exams are being held, have been exempted. “We’ve exempted educational institutions in view of the SSC exams,” the party said. MLAs of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) blocked the Assembly gates on Monday and insisted that they would not allow “Telangana traitors”, the SeemaAndhra MLAs, to enter the House.
“In the past two days, two youths have committed suicide for Telangana.
How many should die for Telangana? Why is the Centre playing with the lives of the people of Telangana?” Independent MLA Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy asked.
Mr Etela Rajender and other TRS MLAs demanded a T-resolution in the Assembly.
TRS MLAs stopped Telugu Desam MLAs, Mr Dulipala Narendra and Mr Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, from entering the Assembly. The agitators, however, allowed CPI and BJP MLAs to enter. After the dharna, the TRS MLAs too entered the House.
TRS floor leader Mr Etela Rajender was furious over the government’s failure to pay homage to the youths in the Assembly and moving a resolution seeking separate Telangana, said, “Will Seema-Andhra lead
ers remain silent if a youth had committed suicide in their region? Why this bias towards Telangana people?” he asked.
Meanwhile, the SSC Board informed that the exams scheduled on Tuesday would be held as usual as the T-organisation had announced that the exams and APSRTC buses would be exempted from the bandh for the convenience of students.
Exams for First Language paper-II (group-A), First Language paper-II (composite course) and OSSC Main language paper (Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian) are scheduled on Tuesday.
However, all examinations of the Osmania University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda and Palamuru University, Mahbubnagar that were scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed. Fresh dates will be announced later.
