A tough physics paper coupled with the 45-day mass strike (Sakala Janula Samme) in Telangana districts seems to have brought down the intermediate pass percentage this year. While in 2011,the pass percentage in the state was 63.27,this year it has dropped by 4.84% to 58.43.In fact, this is the lowest pass percentage in the past three years. In 2010,the pass percentage was 64.69.The pass percentage in Telangana districts has fallen from 59.9 to 52.4%,marking a 7.5% drop. The results were declared on Tuesday. However, students from the T region sparkled in the topper list with five out of top six from Telangana.
About 31% of the students failed in the physics paper, bringing down the pass percentage in Maths,Physics,Chemistry (MPC) and Biology,Physics and Chemistry (BPC) streams. The pass percentage in physics is the lowest (68) among all subjects including mathematics II A (92),mathematics IIB (87),chemistry (87).The highest score in the MPC stream was 994 (out of 1,000) and in BPC the top score was 989.
Soon after the examinations, students and junior college officials from across the state had alleged that the physics paper for a total mark of 60 had over nine questions that were out of syllabus.Since weightage is given to intermediate marks while calculating Eamcet ranks, several students had threatened to take Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) to court.
