The government is under tremendous pressure from students and parents to announce the results of the Eamcet exam, held on May 12. This is the first time in recent years that the results have been delayed by a month. The government's decision to wait till the revaluation results of the Intermediate second year were out before announcing the results has drawn strong flak.
Why should 3.5 lakh students who appeared for Eamcet be held up for the sake of a few hundreds who apply for revaluation of their answer scripts, ask students and parents.
Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha, who also holds the portfolio of higher education, on Saturday said that his department would hold consultations with the department of secondary education, under whose purview the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) comes, to release the results early. Until 2008, Eamcet results used to be announced after two weeks of the exam as there was no weightage for Inter marks.
