764 candidates get eligibility for lecturership, and 40 get JRF
The Osmania University region has registered an impressive performance in the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) results with 764 candidates getting eligibility for the lecturership and 40 candidates getting the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The exam was held on June 24 this year.
An analysis of the UGC-NET results released on Wednesday revealed that the performance has improved over the last examinations held in December 2011. In the last exam around 360 candidates got eligibility for lecturership.
“This year 21,437 candidates appeared for the test of which 764 got eligibility for lecturership and another 40 for JRF,” said T. Krishna Rao, UGC coordinator for the exam and the Director of Examinations, OU.
Prof. Krishna Rao said that management stream contributed maximum with 183 lecturership candidates and nine JRFs followed by 133 and 11 candidates respectively in the Telugu subject. Other subjects where the numbers are high, include Commerce (68 and 1), Hindi (52 and 4), Economics (35 and 1), English (27 and 3), Sociology (22 and 1), Education (21 and 1), Library and Information Science (21 and 1) and Electronic Science (19 and 1).
In the Computer Science and Applications subject 3,318 candidates tested their luck but only five candidates qualified for lecturership and none for JRF.
Over 2,000 candidates appeared in Management, Telugu and English subjects.
Changed pattern
Teachers attribute the high number of successful candidates to the changed exam pattern. From this year negative marking has been done away with while the third paper, which was descriptive till last year, was also changed to objective type.
The first paper of General Knowledge is common for all the subjects, while the second and third papers test the candidates exclusively in the chosen subject.
Moreover, till last year the third paper was valued only if the candidate cleared the first two papers.
