Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) is keen on launching courses that are more job-oriented and socially-relevant, keeping in view the number of girl students who are well below the affordability line.
While B. Tech, MBA and B. Pharmacy courses are in great demand among women, especially those having the financial wherewithal, the varsity is keen to expand its base and be accessible to the not-so-affordable women. B.Sc. Nursing with 40 seats tops the list. Having secured the nod from the State government, the varsity has forwarded the proposal to the Indian Nursing Council (INC). “Similarly, we plan to launch Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) courses of 1.5 years and 2.5 years duration respectively from the ensuing year, which we believe will help us take in more girl students into our fold,” says Vice-Chancellor S. Rathna Kumari.
Prof. Kumari spoke to ‘The Hindu’ on recently completing 100 days in office and after gaining grasp over key issues like the varsity’s dwindling finances, need to update the curriculum and steps to popularise its courses.
Buoyed by the good response to its Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) course, SPMVV is now getting ready to offer a Master’s course to further the employability of the degree holders.
Similarly, a proposal has been sent to All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to start B.Tech and MBA, a five-year integrated course. “We also have a proposal to offer a five-year integrated programme in Food Technology, under the aegis of our Home Science department,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
