Concentrating on academic activity and quality and quantity research are among his top priorities, new full-time Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University G.S.N. Raju said on Wednesday.
“My aim is to make Andhra University a global university, promoting education to meet global standards.
Ensuring academic discipline, strengthening R and D and consultancy activity which are also needed to improve the revenue of the university since a large number of colleges are going to be affiliated to other universities, making AU self-sustaining in the long run, motivating the faculty to publish more papers and books, develop communication skills and entrepreneurship among students, develop teaching methods to attain global standards, motivate teachers and support staff to improve their skills and work more efficiently, introducing inter-disciplinary courses and ensure a clean and green and plastic-free, pollution-free campus”, said Prof. Raju while addressing a press conference after taking charge.
The new V-C said the university and its teachers are accountable to the people and it should take up social service programmes, as much as 500 programmes have been conducted during TEQEP-I phase in the past, o get quick and best results by adopting only respectable means.
AU has already started the exercise for renewing its NAAC accreditation with Rector A.V. Prasada Rao looking after the task.
Last time AU received 3.65 points, the highest for any State university in Andhra Pradesh and would strive to do better, he said.
While R and D and consultancy would provide some revenue efforts would be made to tap the AU alumni to strengthen the university’s financial position.
“An alumni cell would be formed which would have teachers and staff.
They would be continuously contacting the old students. I hope the old students would help the university”, Prof. Raju said.
There are many projects which would be providing funds and it was necessary to tap them, he said and hoped the quality faculty of AU could achieve results here.
Earlier the Rector, Principals of AU campus colleges, Registrar, many teachers, research scholars and employees were present as Prof. Raju took charge as Vice-Chancellor. Before entering the Central Administrative Office building, he garlanded the statues of Sir C.R. Reddy, Gandhiji and B.R. Ambedkar.
Prof. Raju is the 17{+t}{+h} person to become V-C of Andhra University.
In the past Sir C.R. Reddy was Vice-Chancellor for two terms, with Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan doing a term in between and the late Prof. M. Gopalakrishna Reddy had done two consecutive .
