Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) is soon going to launch M. Tech. courses in petroleum engineering branches. Announcing this during the inaugural of the workshop on ‘Fundamentals of petroleum reservoir engineering’ organised jointly by the department of Petrochemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering of the University College of Engineering Kakinada and the Kakinada Section of Society of Petroleum Engineers here on Friday, Vice-Chancellor of the JNTUK G. Tulasi Ram Das observed that the reservoir engineering was gaining importance in the current scenario. Prof. Das, who was out of station, was interacted with the guests and students through the Skype facility and conveyed his wishes to the organisers. Executive Director and Asset Manager of the ONGC, Kakinada’s Eastern Offshore Asset Ashok Varma, also the programme chairman of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Kakinada section, explained in detail the required qualities for the successful engineers. He said that reservoir engineering was the heart of petroleum engineering and compared the oil production in India and the USA.
