Senior faculty of National Institute of Technology (NIT) I.A.K. Reddy urged students to strive to be different rather than blindly following others in life. Addressing the students at Spectra Concept School on the eve of Club Festival Day of the school, Prof. Reddy said that parents and children were only focusing on engineering and medicine while there were many other disciplines which are very important. “One can become a lawyer, journalist, chartered accountant and so on. But hardly anybody thinks differently,” he told students, parents and teachers.
Raising the question of employability in the State’s engineering colleges, Ajit Reddy cited the recent survey report of Aspire Minds, an employee assessment service provider, which reportedly found only 18 per cent of IT graduates as employable in India. L. Ram Gopal Reddy of NIT exhorted students to read newspapers to keep themselves abreast with the latest developments in society. Earlier, the club members presented reports of their activities. Students are divided into groups and encouraged to pursue various vocations such as dance, drama, newspaper-reading among others. School principal L. Prashanthi Reddy appreciated the efforts of the students and congratulated them on the occasion.
