KAKINADA:The qualification and syllabus for pursuing chartered accountancy course will soon be upgraded to meet the international standards, according to M. Devaraja Reddy, National Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
The first Telugu person to hold a top position in the prestigious institution that’s the attestation authority and the body to design syllabus, conduct examinations, provide training and issue licence to CAs, Mr. Reddy visited the Kakinada branch of the ICAI on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference here, he said a detailed proposal has already been submitted by the ICAI to the Union Government seeking revision of the qualification to appear for the CA and the syllabus as well.
“Now, those who pass class X are eligible to pursue the course and we want the government to revise the qualification as Intermediate, so that students can take a decision of their own whether to pursue the course. Similarly, the syllabus will be revised completely to cater to the needs of the global economy,” he explained.
The Union Government is expected to approve the proposals in the second or third week of March and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs will release the orders announcing the changes.
“Many private institutions are luring students and parents toward chartered accountancy. They are painting a rosy picture about the careers of the CAs without mentioning the hard work that is required to complete the course,” Mr. Reddy said, adding that the chartered accountancy required more hard work and passion than intelligence.
Proficiency in English
“The entrance test pattern will also be changed from the existing 200-mark objective form. Along with the objective questions, there will be subjective ones for another 200 marks, as we want to check the communication skills and English proficiency of the students,” he said.
Chairman of the ICAI’s Kakinada branch Boda Anand Kumar and others were present.
