The Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare of Andhra Pradesh has given permission to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) for affiliation with Harvard Medical School and adopting its Training to Excellence (T to E) programme for development of teaching methodologies, education and research.
This initiative is a part of NTRUHS’s efforts to impart quality medical education and training to medical students in tune with global standards.
In a G.O issued on Wednesday, the Department also allowed installation of a high definition video-conferencing facility that connects all medical colleges for telecasting lectures, procedures at bed-side clinics and surgeries from various national and international institutions.
Skill labs
Besides, laptops/ tablets of specified configurations preloaded with lectures and modules, as per guidelines of Medical Council of India, will be provided to all students in government medical colleges to enable them to access journals and books through the gateway of NTR MEDNET Consortium. The Medical and Health Department has also given permission for establishment of skill laboratories in medical colleges which will have cadaver laboratories, mannequins, bone models and virtual reality computerised workshops.
Permission has been given for providing Wi-Fi facility in all government medical colleges in the State.
NTRUHS Vice-Chancellor Dr. T. Ravi Raju had briefed the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu about the need for imparting quality medical education and training to medical students, for which he suggested various technological advances to be adopted, in a Chief Minister’s Review Committee meeting held in Vijayawada last month. NTRUHS had begun the process of forging a tie-up with HMS in early 2015 for improving medical education standards in Andhra Pradesh. It is going to be the first medical university in India to have a tie-up with HMS.
HMS had agreed to help medical colleges raise their standards through team visits and video-conferencing and lend its expertise to upgrade the research component.
