Minister of State for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil has convened a meeting of senior officials of the Medical Education and Law departments and the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) in Bengaluru on Saturday to study the implications of the Supreme Court judgment on conducting National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for the ensuing academic year for medical courses and take a decision on the next course of action. Addressing a hurriedly convened press conference here on Friday, Dr. Patil said that a decision would be taken on the next course of action, including filing a review petition challenging the Supreme Court order, keeping in mind students interests.
The Minister, who had preliminary discussions over phone with senior officials of the department and legal experts, said that directions have been issued to the Secretary of the department to hold preliminary discussions with the Law Department and legal experts today. He said that he would hold a formal meeting with senior officials after returning to Bengaluru in the evening.
Dr. Patil said that without consulting legal experts and the Law Department he would not want to say anything on the Supreme Court order. He would also consult the Advocate General of the State on the next course of action. “A final decision on the issue would be taken after consulting the Advocate General and the Chief Minister,” he added
