The GITAM Admission Test (GAT) -2016 result was declared here on Friday.
And topping the list is Chunduru Rahul from Guntur. While six students from Hyderabad, Telangana, are in the top 10, two are from Visakhapatnam and one each from Guntur and Vijayawada.
The others in the top 10 are Lingireddy Harshit Reddy from Hyderabad, Shivnag Sista from Visakhapatnam, Balumuri Spandana from Visakhapatnam, Varada Pavan Sai from Hyderabad, Komati Bhavana Prasad, Vijayawada, Tirumala Venkata Chakradhar, Chitiprolu Ajith, Yerramsetty Rohit and S. Sai Jaisurya, all from Hyderabad.
Fee waiver for top rankers
Announcing the results, Vice-Chancellor of the university M.S. Prasad Rao said that the total fee will be waived off for all the top 10 rankers for the first year. For the rankers from 11 to 100, the university will waive off 50 per cent of the fees for the first year.
GAT is conducted for admission into various programmes in B. Tech, M. Tech, B. Pharmacy and M. Pharmacy. This year, GAT was held in 44 cities across the country and it was attempted by about 52,000 students.
About 88 per cent have qualified the GAT for about 5,000-odd seats spread across various programmes in the three campuses of the university in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bengaluru,” said Prof. Prasad Rao.
Counselling from May 26
The counselling will take place between May 26 and 28 in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
The V-C also informed the media that three new PG programmes were launched from this year: M. Tech in data science, M. Tech in computer-aided design in manufacturing engineering and a twinning MS programme in automobile engineering in association with Windsor University, Canada.
From this an accelerated programme in engineering in the UG level has also been launched.
Explaining the concept, the V-C said, “Bright and intelligent student will be allowed to complete the eighth semester along with the seventh semester, so that they can concentrate on start-ups and innovative add-on courses during the eighth semester.”
