As the counselling for engineering seats of the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) commences on Tuesday, seat aspirants are going through anxious moments with the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) yet to allot seats in professional courses through the Common Entrance Test (CET) route. The anxiety among the students is certainly not unfounded. If a student chooses a seat under COMEDK, the fee will be nearly three times the fee for seats allotted in the CET pool. While the seat allotment for all disciplines under CET was to have been announced on June 26 as per the original calendar of events, the schedule was affected as the government was still negotiating with private medical colleges on the nearly 700 government quota seats. An engineering seat aspirant whose COMEDK counselling is scheduled on Tuesday said: “My CET ranking is fairly good to get a seat in a top engineering college. But, the current calendar of events affects me as I want a computer science seat in R.V. College of Engineering. I am not sure if I will be able to get this under CET, and I’m keen on this college and branch. So I might have to pick a COMEDK seat as my CET prospects are uncertain,” she said.
