Hyderabad: Students, who did their plus two education in CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), outperformed their competitors from other state boards at this year’s JEE. Of the 9,660 seats on offer in 22 IITs across the country, CBSE students bagged a massive 5,849 seats.
This comes to a 60 per cent share in seats. Telangana Intermediate Board has good reasons to cheer because it stood first among all state boards that sent the highest number of candidates to IITs after CBSE.
Eight hundred and eighty eight students (888) students who did their Intermediate in Telangana state syllabus got admission at various IITs. Andhra Pradesh was fourth in the list with 742 students getting into IITs.
Even in the number of candidates who successfully cleared the exam, 19,566 did their plus two studies under CBSE. Telangana board came in second with 2,835 qualified candidates, while AP was fifth with 2,343 qualified candidates.
Delhi Public School (Nacharam) principal, Sunitha S. Rao said in CBSE, the emphasis was on concept based teaching and learning instead of problem solving.
“Most of the entrance exams like JEE, BITS-Pilani follow NCERT syllabus. That is what is taught at plus two in CBSE. Application based learning and importance on practicals ensures that students from CBSE are a step ahead when compared to students from other state boards,” she said.
