AHMEDABAD: The state education department has on Saturday issued a government resolution stating that the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) has been replaced with Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GujCET) from the academic year 2017 for students in Gujarat.
"At present, JEE is conducted as a common entrance test for admission in degree engineering, degree pharmacy and diploma pharmacy courses. JEE was made compulsory as a common entrance test in these courses since 2013. With this resolution, the provision of JEE being mandatory has been abolished and instead of it, the GujCET test will be conducted from the academic year of 2017," said the resolution signed by deputy secretary of higher and technical education, Ashoksinh Parmar.
From March 2017, students will be admitted in these courses on merit list prepared giving 60% weightage on marks obtained in the four semesters and 40% on GujCET percentile.
The government has come to the decision after holding discussions with various stakeholders, including parents and guardians. This has come as a big relief to more than one lakh students of Gujarat who do not want to go outside their home state for studies.
