THE Union Government will start 6,000 Central schools throughout the country to upgrade the standard of school education, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said here on Sunday.
Speaking at a function after laying the foundation for the Bharath School near Thanavayal in Karaikudi, he said the quality school education was the strong basement on which the higher education standards depended upon.
The Union Government gave importance school education as the life of a child actually started from school. In general, the students who had access to quality education excelled in life when those who did not have it, often lagged behind. In this regard, the Activity Based Learning (ABL) being implemented in schools in State was doing well, Chidambaram said.
He said the State government should upgrade the infrastructure of the schools in the next three years by providing facilities such as drinking water, toilets, laboratory, library and playground to all schools.
More model schools should also be established in the state with modern facilities. The Union Government was also trying to promote more higher educational institutions in the State and an IIM will start functioning at Tiruchy in the near future, the Minister added.
