IIT-MADRAS Association (IITMAA) has launched a student-alumni mentoring programme, `iitmaaMentor', for IIT-Madras students at their campus, in partnership with Chronus, a market leader in mentoring solutions.
Mentor, the new initiative of the alumni, would help IITians chose a wellguided path based on their experience and area of expertise. "We conducted a student survey in which about 750 students showed keen interest in having a mentor to address their various needs. A majority of them wanted advice on jobs in their core area of study, higher education, jobs in IT/finance sector MBA etc. About 93 old students have already volunteered to play mentors for students seeking advice.
We are hoping that this programme will catch up in a big way and provided for a wider channel of communication," explained Vishy Viswanathan, the core committee head of this initiative.
Over 500 final year and pre-final year students would be mentored every year by successful and resourceful alumni of IIT Madras through this programme. iitmaaMentor. org, is the portal through which this interaction will happen. The portal is designed and maintained by Chronus, a leader in building online communities.
