HYDERABAD: As the Common Admission Test (CAT) is all set to begin today across the country, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) have requested the candidates to stay in touch by phone and email; access emails regularly, including the spam folder; check admit cards thoroughly for appointment date, and time and test location.
The IIMs organising the test said that candidates should be careful about the SMS message coming from Prometric, which has been entrusted with assisting IIMs in conducting the test. Any SMS messages sent by Prometric will be from “PROMETRC” (the letter “i” has been omitted to conform to the TRAI eight-character ID regulation).
In order to provide further assistance to candidates, Prometric has made available directional maps for all CAT 2009 test centres. Candidates can access their respective maps on www.catiim.in.
It is recommended that candidates should visit their test centre prior to their appointment date and acquaint themselves with the location, commute time and traffic conditions to eliminate any last minute uncertainty.
Candidates can also view the video posted on YouTube - “What to expect on test day”, available via www.catiim.in or on YouTube directly. A supplementary practical guide is also available for download on www.catiim.in
Punishment
Meanwhile, candidates appearing for online test would have to face imprisonment and a fine up to Rs. 2 lakh if they disclose, publish, or facilitate transmission of exam contents.
According to information posted on the IIMs website, candidates who want to appear for CAT have to agree to a Non-Disclosure Agreement at the time of the test. And if they violate the agreement by disclosing, publishing, reproducing, transmitting, or facilitating transmission and storage of the contents of the CAT verbal or written, electronically or mechanically for any purpose would be treated as per the violation of the Indian Contract Act, 1872 or the Copyright Act, 1957 or the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Corrections
The website also said that another opportunity was being provided to candidates to change the information provided by them in the application form. The facility will be available till December 11 and emails and SMS messages have been sent to such candidates. “If the candidates do not use this opportunity to fill in the information, IIMs will not be responsible for candidates not getting short-listed for interviews,” the site said.
