All of them to be given appointment orders on Monday

GUNTUR: Acharya Nagarjuna University at its Executive Council meeting on the campus on Friday ratified the appointment of 23 assistant professors in the 26 vacancies for which notification was given. All of them would be given appointment orders on Monday, the Vice-Chancellor Y.R. Haragopala Reddy has said.
Giving formal approval to the appointment of 23 candidates, who were short-listed out of the several candidates, who had appeared for interviews during this week, the university authorities have for the first time filled vacancies in several departments, which did not have even a single faculty member and only part-time guest lecturers used to manage them.
The University also proposes to appoint some more teaching faculty members on contractual basis after assessing the need through a committee by December-end, Prof. Haragopal Reddy told The Hindu.
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication got a permanent faculty member in Friday’s appointment and the Executive Council has also ratified appointment of two more faculty members on contractual basis in this self-finance course being offered on the campus.
Departments of Law, Master in Travel and Tourism Management, and Microbiology for which one post each was to be filled in the permanent category could not be filled. Out the current appointments for ANU Campus College, Nuzvid and Ongole PG Centres, Other Castes are 10, Backward Classes members 9 and Scheduled Castes 4 as per the Reservation Roster fixed by the ANU.
The Executive Council also ratified payment of scholarship of Rs.6,000 to physically handicapped post-graduate students, who had family income below Rs.1 lakh per annum and got at least 55 per cent marks in the first and second semesters. A probe committee has been appointed to go into the alleged irregularity in Telugu Department in conducting a viva-voce for a research scholar. Also the Vice-Chancellor has been empowered to look into the Original Degree scam in which a woman employee is allegedly involved.
In yet another development the university Vice-Chancellor handed over a 5-acre land on the campus to National Cadet Corps Guntur Group Commander A.S.N. Rao to establish their headquarters. The NCC officials took physical possession of the land on Thursday after inspecting it. The University Rector K. Viyyanna Rao and NCC Commander Shiv Sankar were also present on the occasion.
