Varsity holds principals’ meet to chalk out plan for examination reforms

GUNTUR: The Acharya Nagarjuna University, which has initiated a massive exercise of holding discussions with principals of all degree and post-graduate colleges in Guntur, Krishna and Prakasam districts, on Tuesday announced that it would introduce a single answer sheet for all post-graduate examinations of the university.
The university held a discussion on various topics of holding examinations, valuation of answer sheets, and appointment of examiners, as part of its efforts to chalk out plan for examination reforms that would provide the university a better credibility when it goes for NAAC Acceditation.
Principals of all the colleges in Guntur district attended the meeting. The Executive Committee members along with Vice-Chancellor Y.R. Haragopal Reddy, Rector K. Viyyanna Rao and Registrar M.V. Narasimha Sarma explained the university’s plan to improve the question paper distribution and answer sheet valuation system. The meeting decided that appointment of examiners would be made only by the university and identification cards provided for them.
A unified single answer sheet would be introduced in the post-graduate examinations of the university instead of giving additional sheets, which gave scope for misappropriation by the colleges or other university staff. Bar-coding of all the answer sheets was also explained to college principals. The university also released the 2010 calendar of the university at the meeting. While accepting suggestions from the principals of the colleges, the ANU authorities gave its views in a compact disc on all these aspects to the principals and it announced that all persons, who had enrolled in any of the university course before 2000 would be given a final chance in July 2010 to write examination under Modified Course or Common Core. The maximum limit for passing a course has been fixed at 10 years from joining.
OMR sheets
Now Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets would be made compulsory for the practical examinations also like the theory papers from next academic year, the principals were told. Principals of Prakasam district would meet at ANU PG Centre at Ongole on December 31.
