Universities lose 30 working days during agitations - APSCHE Chairman suggests extension of classes
GUNTUR: The schedule for conducting various Common Entrance Tests (CET) for admission into graduate and post-graduate courses in the State will be announced on Wednesday, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education K.C. Reddy said here on Tuesday.
Professor Reddy, who inaugurated the South-West Inter-University Handball Tournament on the premises of Acharya Nagarjuna University, told media persons that the committee constituted on CET would meet at Hyderabad on Wednesday and finalise the dates of various entrance tests.
The announcement would mark the end of uncertainty over the schedule of important tests, including Eamcet, due to prolonged agitations in the State. The Chairman said that a meeting of Vice-Chancellors was being convened and added Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan was keenly observing developments in the universities.
Expressing concern over the disruption of academic schedules and its consequent affect on the employment prospects of students, Prof. Reddy said that universities had lost 30 working days during the agitations. He suggested that universities should extend the classes by one more month to compensate for the lost working days.
“Once the Universities forego one month of summer vacation, the academic schedule will be back on track for the year 2010-2011,” he pointed out.
V-Cs’ conference soon
An amicable solution would be reached at the V-C’s conference which would be held shortly, he added.
