GUNTUR: “When you want to start a business, choose rural areas,” Managing Director of Bharathi Sops, A. Manickavel told MBA graduates at RVR & JC College of Engineering on Friday.
Speaking at the 11th Ramarayudu Management Students’ Meet organised by the Department of Management, he went on to say that selling in rural areas would be a viable option when compared to urban areas where there would be lots of competition. Over 250 students from 40 colleges attended the meet.
The detergent soaps of Bharathi Soaps, XXX, Blue Diamond, have been marketed on rickshaws by a single person holding a hand mike. People in rural areas took an instant liking for this no-frills sale, he pointed out. The MD went on to say that the key to any successful business lay in listening keenly, to any one, including suppliers, staff and workers. He also asked the students to depend on traditional method of recording contacts and not rely on mobile phones etc. The other successful principle he followed was to stay focused always.
College principal P.S. Sankara Rao, who presided over the function, said that management education must address issues like ethical ideas of management, leveraging leadership, corporate governance and risk calculation for a project.
