VIJAYAWADA: The Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences has granted only “conditional affiliation” to three medical colleges to which the Medical Council of India (MCI) had issued show-cause notices, Vice-Chancellor A.V. Krishnam Raju clarified on Wednesday.
Dr. Krishnam Raju told a press conference that the candidates opting for PG medical seats in these colleges during the ongoing counselling were being told that conditional affiliation had been issued “subject to verification by the MCI”.
‘No favours to colleges'
Coming down heavily on a section of the electronic media, the Vice-Chancellor said that “no favours” were extended to any of these colleges and he was ready to put for public scrutiny the records of the university and also his personal assets to refute the allegations made against him by some television channels.
Dr. Krishnam Raju said that the conditional affiliation was issued to NRI Medical College, Chinakakani, SVS Medical College, Mahabubnagar, and MNR Medical College, Sangareddy, only after talking to the MCI secretary.
The MCI secretary had told him orally that the university could take an appropriate decision after conducting its own inspection, but did not “issue any specific directions to the university in this regard”.
Before giving conditional affiliation, the university had sent inspection teams to the three colleges and found that they were fulfilling all the MCI norms.
Chancellor informed Dr. Krishnam Raju said that the University's Chancellor, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, was being apprised of all the developments to seek his advice on how to deal with the section of the media that was “misleading the public”.
The university would resort to legal recourse if the TV channels did not withdraw the false reports, he warned. Court ‘misled'
The Vice-Chancellor said that four service candidates had “misled” the High Court and got interim orders directing the university to permit them for counselling.
Three of them had qualified in the counselling, but the university would approach the court with correct information and get the admissions cancelled.
The university would also recommend to the State government to take action against them.
