Hyderabad, May 28: The CBSE Class X results were announced on Friday. For the first time grades were awarded to students instead of marks.
As the marks were replaced by grades, the usual euphoria associated with results was missing this year. There were no “toppers” like earlier years and the expectations, stress and anxiety levels among students and parents were minimal.
Of the total 17,320 students who appeared for Class X exams from Andhra Pradesh, 17,079 qualified recording a pass percentage of 98.55. Girls fared slightly better than boys with a pass percentage of 98.67. Boys recorded 98.46 pass percentage.
Students would be informed of their grades in each subject, the grade point and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
While Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School, Jubilee Hills; Delhi Public School, Nacharam; and Hyderabad Public School, Ramanthapur, secured 100 per cent results, Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kanchanbagh got 95.5 per cent results. Vasavi Public School, Himayathnagar, got 98.13 per cent result and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Picket, secured 98.5 per cent result.
The grades were awarded on a nine-point scale for each subject. If a student scored between 91 and 100 per cent in a subject, the student was given an A1-grade and a grade point of 10. A student scoring marks between 81 and 90 per cent in a subject was awarded A and a grade point of 9. An average of all the grade points was then calculated.
The practice of declaring compartment/fail has also been discontinued from this year as part of the examination reform introduced by the Union HRD minister, Mr Kapil Sibal, last year.
However, some students complained that the grading system will serve no purpose since the junior colleges in the state admit students based on marks.
“I need to get nearly 90 per cent in Class X to enter a reputed college. I wonder how I can ascertain my score in Class X,” said Ms K. Akshara of Howard Public School who secured an A1 grade.
