Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh will be the first state to have one teacher for every 30 students in government schools, claimed state secondary education minister D Manikya Varaprasad on Friday.
Addressing the media, the minister said this would be possible as the government would be appointing over 26,000 teachers in government schools. The new appointees will be from those who were selected by District Selection Committee (DSC) 2008. The process of filling the vacancies will be completed in 10 days time.
The decision was taken after a high-level meeting chaired by the minister. According to Varaprasad, the state government had taken the opinion of legal experts as well as the state advocate general following a recent judgment by the Supreme Court which said that 70% of the posts should be for B Ed candidates and 30% for D Ed candidates. He said that the state will now appoint 26,700 secondary grade teachers (SGTs) and 1,149 school assistants.
