New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), after suspending 18 regular teachers and 14 contractual teachers from its schools on Saturday, is now planning to bring its teaching faculty under the biometric system.
The MCD currently has around 20,000 teachers on roll who have been opposed to the introduction of the biometric system for quite a while.
A proposal for the introduction of the biometric system had been pending since December 17, 2008 but was never implemented by the MCD.
Now, the civic agency has already placed its staff under the system in other departments. On August 1, 2008, the MCD had introduced its first biometric system at the office of the municipal commissioner in Ambedkar Stadium and the Town Hall, which are the MCD's current headquarters.
A senior MCD official said that the topics that would be discussed in a meeting soon would include issues regarding whether to implement the project in phases or one go, whether contractual teachers would be a part of the project or not, how many machines would be required etc.
