Tuition fee: State to issue revised orders
Posted on : 26-02-2011 Source : The Hindu

College managements not to close down their institutions

4,292 students made “double claims” of tuition fee, says Minister Pithani Satyanarayana

Money to be recovered, criminal action to be launched against them and managements

HYDERABAD: The Government will issue revised orders for payment on a pro rate basis the sum of Rs 1,000 crore being released towards the tuition fee dues, among all the colleges across the regions.

Announcing this at a media conference here on Friday, Social Welfare Minister Pithani Satyanarayana said the issuing of revised orders became necessary as it was the established engineering colleges whose dues were cleared first under the existing three orders regardless of the region.

Small colleges

Three other Ministers B. Saraiah (Backward Classes Welfare), P. Balaraju (Tribal Welfare) and Mohd Syed Ahmadullah (Minorities Welfare), who were also present, said the new orders would ensure funds flow even to small colleges, backing to them in salary payment to teaching and non-teaching staff.

Assurance

Mr Satyanarayana said the college managements expressed happiness at the assurance to ensure pro rata distribution and scrapped their plan to close down their institutions from February 24 as planned earlier.

The Minister, however, blamed the managements for failure to forward the application of over 7 lakh out of 28.5 lakh eligible and admitted students (for 2010-11), making it difficult for the government to release tuition fee for them.

He disclosed that 4,292 students had made “double claims” of tuition fee and received the sums accordingly for 2009-10, styling themselves first as SCs and later as STs etc.

The amounts received by them would be recovered and criminal action launched against them and the managements concerned.

The Minister said the remaining 50 per cent of the “mess charge” dues would be cleared in case of all hostels run by students and managements by May-end.

Scheme to stay

The four ministers asserted that notwithstanding the financial problems faced by the government, tuition fee reimbursement scheme would be continued.

They rubbished as “improper”, a remark made by former Member of Parliament Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, on the scheme with a “political motive”.
