Hyderabad: Exactly a week before the Intermediate Public Examinations are set to start, the government junior college lecturers from Telangana have decided to boycott their duties to raise the ‘T’ pitch. An estimated 700 of 1200 junior lecturers who
have been appointed chief invigilators and superintendents have decided to boycott the examinations.
The decision was taken by the Telangana Government Junior College Lecturers’ Association at a protest meeting held in the city on Friday. The lecturers stated that they would join the non-cooperation movement launched by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) from the day of commencement of the examinations.
The decision is expected to derail the examination schedule in the Telangana region. The officials of Board of Intermediate Examinations are likely to hold talks with the lecturers on Saturday to persuade them to give up their plan. The development has taken the government by surprise as the lecturers had earlier decided to stay away from the non-cooperation movement. “We have now decided to participate in the non-cooperation movement along with Telangana leaders,” asserted T Ismail, general secretary, Telangana Government Junior College Lecturers Association, while speaking at the meeting here.
Meanwhile, officials of BIE admitted that it would be difficult to find new invigilators at the last minute to conduct the examinations. “We cannot appoint private school lecturers to senior posts,” stated a BIE official.
If the Intermediate examination schedule gets affected, students from the state would not be able to appear for the national level engineering admission tests such as IIT-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) which are scheduled to be held in April. Even the dates of Eamcet-2011 which is to be held in May would have to be reschedule.
G Balaramaiah, secretary, BIE stated that the situation would be salvaged before the commencement of exams.
Meanwhile, another organisation, Telangana Inter Vidya Joint Action Committee is planning to start a mass relay hunger strike with 2,000 employees on Saturday. In the meeting which will be attended by TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, some more junior lecturers are likely to announce boycott of the examinations, said sources.
