Students have lost focus on studies, say teachers in Adilabad
The future of about 34,000 SSC, 55,000 Intermediate students at stake in the district
With paucity of time and more agitations in the offing things appear bleak
ADILABAD: Not even the hardcore of Telangana protagonists from the teaching community deny the fact that the separate State movement has caused derailment of education in Adilabad district.
Students, they say, have irrevocably lost focus on studies owing to the rather prolonged struggle which has also witnessed participation of teachers at all levels.
At stake is the future of about 34,000 SSC and 55,000 Intermediate students who are slated to appear for respective Board exams scheduled in March-April. Due to shortage of time and more of the agitations in the offing, there does not seem to be any hope at this juncture of setting matters right.
“Studies started to get affected when the education system was hit with bogus medical reimbursement and bogus LTC claims scams. Then came the delay in distribution of revision material, the boycotts and rallies and later due to teachers getting engaged in Census work,” recalls C. Swamy Reddy, president of Adilabad unit of the Telangana United Teachers Federation.
“The exemption given to SSC and Inter exams by the Telangana Joint Action Committee may not save the day for the students. Under the present circumstances it will be difficult to get them to concentrate on studies,” he says.
In the case of Intermediate exams authorities are making preparations though they are not hopeful of the smooth conduct of the exams. “Exemption to students may not work because the lecturers are likely to join the struggle in the coming days,” points out an official associated with Intermediate exams.
Teachers hopeful
Despite the dismal picture, many teachers in the district are hopeful of ‘protecting' the interests of students as they anticipate authorities permitting ‘loose' supervision in the exams. Their hope stems from past experience under similar circumstances.
Records reveal that the district actually bagged higher ranks in SSC and Inter results in the State during periods of crisis. For example, Adilabad stood sixth in SSC and second in Intermediate last time in the face of a strong pro-Telangana agitation in the latter half of the academic year.
